The writers seem to like throwing in continuous plot twists and cliffhangers: some worked, some don't, some were mere ass pulls. The main characters fall into the usual anime stereotypes, but their chess game with "Mom" definitely offered some interesting moments. After an uncertain beginning, the show unexpectedly morphed into some kind of psychological thriller with fantasy/horror elements.
THE PROMISED NEVERLAND MANGA 10 SERIES
As someone who cares massively about character, dialogue, and score, this really really did not do it for meĮven though I found it a bit toothless and slow-paced at times, "The Promised Neverland" seemed to be a quite promising series (no pun intended).
If you're new to anime, and are particularly big on realism (relatively speaking) and have a general appeal towards cinema, I'd advise you probably give this one a miss.
THE PROMISED NEVERLAND MANGA 10 TV
I've watched several anime films and haven't found this issue, and I've also since started Attack on Titan, and such aspects that I found repulsive in this show, have at worst been monumentally toned down in that show, which leads me to believe that my issues are localised to this show, and likely others too (perhaps by the same studio, which I will likely avoid), and cannot be generalised to anime tv shows as a whole. It was my first anime tv show so I understand that a lot of these things I've found irritating may be present in most anime tv shows, and perhaps it's the genre itself that isn't for me. Essentially, those last few episodes which were at least bearable still didn't change my mind that this is a bad show. The execution was just horrible for the most part. The plot throughout the season always had drive, and on the surface I think it's a great idea. They toned down on the annoying aspects, and actually had some inventive and interesting plot developments, and character moments. Admittedly, the season got better towards the end. I cannot stress enough how much I despise those little noises that happen every few seconds. Actually one more thing, the constant weird sighing and whimpering, and occasional outright scream-crying, was so off putting and so so mortifyingly irritating. I could probably go on, but I won't because I've made my point clear, and neither can I be bothered to continue. Even little, inconsequential things were often done in an irksome manner, and such occurrences accumulated. Characters will flat out say out loud their plans, feelings, as well as plot exposition. Infants who are probably smarter than 97% of the population. Extremely, and I mean extremely, irritating characters.
I didn't like it at all, long story short. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles. Overall I'd say this is a must see I can't wait for season two. The creators have given the series a great look which makes it stand out from most other series the characters are distinctive and the backgrounds beautifully rendered. Despite little real violence there is a real air of menace and futility. The characters are impressive not just the likeable children but also characters who initially appear good but are in fact anything but. the revelation at the end of the first episode is one of the biggest shocks in any series I've watched and once revealed effects every moment to come. Everything is great for them until one day they learn a terrible truth after that they work to find a way to escape along with the other orphans. The only rule is that they may not leave the grounds until they are adopted. They wait to be adopted by a loving family the latest this ever happens is their twelfth birthday. Here they are looked after by a caring 'mother' who provides them with their needs. Top speed, completely free.Set in the year 2045, this anime is centred on Emma, Norman and Ray three children living in Grace Field House, an orphanage.
